I didn't want to do it, but it was a
great savings. $1.75 vs $35.00, so I thought "Come on, be smart" so I drug my
luggage down the long narrow steps into the train station. The place was nasty,
but I didn't care, I was saving money. I bought my ticket and waited for the
blue train to appear out of the darkness. Suddenly I heard it on the horizon.
The other people were gathering up their belongings ready to rush on and get the
few seats open. I knew better than to rush. I had two suitcases and my old
familiar blue backpack. I knew I would be standing until I reached the end of
the line.
The double doors opened and I walked into a car full of people, luggage and
morning newspapers. Of course there were no seats left, so I just stood and held
onto my luggage. I looked around the car and suddenly noticed there was NOONE
looking back at me. For that matter, no one was looking at anyone! Everyone was
looking down or reading or sleeping. I scanned the crowd. The sleepers were
stretched out with their heads laid over against the wall or the window. It was
an array of real life in front of me. There were people carrying their
belongings in garbage bags right beside a very pretty preppy girl who had a
matching Vera Wang set of luggage! A young man with a hooded sweatshirt had his
hood laces pulled really tight around his head, beside him was a large black
woman with a wig that was held by big bright bobby pins. I wondered if that was
really Oprah in there! Behind her was an elderly gentleman all in navy blue, his
tie was tied perfectly, his collar pressed and starched to stand up just
perfectly to make his tie hang correctly. Across the aisle was a young military
man dressed in uniform. Beside him was a "thug" type young guy reading a book
called "A World of Art." An older lady was directly in front of me, not very
kept looking, kinda frazzled, kinda weary looking, she stared straight ahead,
not once looking up. I would have smiled if anyone would have looked at me but
no one did.
At the first stop, Belmont, a few people exited and a few more boarded. At
Addison, a few more departed and a few more joined us. On and on, every stop,
someone left, someone new took their place. We were almost to the end of the
line when the train stopped all of a sudden. EVERYONE looked up to see what was
wrong. There was nothing ahead on the tracks that we could see. We just sat
there. The announcement was made that there was construction ahead and we would
be delayed. All of a sudden the chatter started. Wow, it was amazing, the train
came to life. People were looking at their watch, dialing their cell phones,
talking back and forth, impatient to the extreme! I just bowed my head and asked
God to get us moving. I had a plane to catch and so did all these other
travelers. After a few more minutes, the train started easing its way north.
Almost like they were ordered to, everyone went directly back to what they were
doing. . . . No talking, no eye contact, back to themselves.
It made me realize sometimes the interruptions of life cause us to notice what's
really around us, maybe even to investigate the worth in the interruption!
I arrived at the airport and then flew to Baltimore and headed toward Hagerstown
MD to sing Sunday Morning. The Salvation Army church had invited me there and I
must tell you, it was a wonderful service. The spirit of God was so sweet in
that chapel! I got down to the end of the service and people started coming to
the altar. I didn't even extend an invitation, the spirit just drew people out
of their seats and they started coming as we sang. Lots of great friends were
there that morning, and I was so glad to see some familiar faces that would talk
to me, and not just sleep or look down!
Sunday night I sang at a great church in Arlington, VA. The Assembly of God had
invited me there to share my testimony and sing, and the Lord really blessed in
that service also. Actually we are already planning a return date for them.
Perhaps with a couple of other artists in the spring...... will keep you
informed on that one.

I mentioned sometime ago about a weekend outing for Krew Members. Of course
anyone can go but basically its for those of you who get this newsletter. On
Saturday after Thanksgiving, we will be going to the Cumberland County Playhouse
again to see the Sanders Family Christmas Play. It's a great show. You will
laugh and sing and be blessed and entertained. The play is set in the 40's, the
Sanders Family is a traveling gospel family that sings in churches in the South.
The audience is the congregation of the church and we have a great time. Those
that went with us the last time will testify to the fact that its a great time!
Get ready to laugh.
We will meet at Maranatha Church and all car pool together to Crossville. After
the play is over, we will again travel to the Cumberland State Park and have the
buffet. It's a great afternoon of fellowship and fun. The ticket price is $20.00
per person for the play. But we need to know if you can join us by the 11th of
November so that we can get the tickets in a group so that we can all be seated
together in the theater. Please call the office at 865 933 2100 and tell Dot how
many tickets you want her to order for you. Or you can email her directly at
Kirksoffice@prodigy.net.

Dot wanted me to tell you that we have a few of the shirts from last weeks
newsletter left. Only a few. But we found some Long-sleeved Red ones that
weren't advertised! So call her and start Christmas shopping early!
Also, I have gotten many emails about seeing me sing on UNFOLDING MAJESTY on TBN.
If you appreciate that program, let them know about it, Drop Dean and Mary Brown
a note at comments@tbn.org

Please continue to pray for me and my schedule. There are a few weeks where I
need to fill certain dates.
I need a Sunday night date in driving distance from Lakeland, Tampa, FL on
November 13th. If anyone in FL wants to have a concert on that night, have your
pastor read my testimony on my website and if he wants to have a night of music,
email my office or call the office.
Thanks again for being so great to me. Thanks for listening and reading my
ramblings. Thanks for not sleeping on me, thanks for not staring into space. . .
. . . . We are on this train together...... thanks for traveling with me.
