Hello Krew
FIRST THING---The concert scheduled
for this coming Sunday in Antioch,
TN has been canceled. So if you were
planning on coming to see me Sunday,
Just go out and eat in my honor!
Last weekend I was in Pennsylvania.
I had a great concert on Saturday
night in Harrisburg at New Life
Church. Nancy Cargus did a great job
in getting the word out and the
church was filled with old and new
friends. The following Sunday I was
in Chambersburg PA at Antrim
Brethren In Christ Church for two
services. Then Sunday Night, I drove
over the mountains to Somerset PA
for a service at the Somerset
Christian Fellowship. Before going
to Somerset, I had time to have
Sunday lunch with Mark and Kim
Witman who were responsible for me
being at Antrim. They have a lovely
home on the Golf Course and a dog
named Molly! Molly and I became
instant friends. In the course of
the meal, we learned that their son
had a pet snake. Naturally, we all
voted to keep the snake upstairs!
I sang twice on that Sunday Morning
and then again on Sunday night so
needless to say, I was one tired
puppy when I started home on Sunday
Night. Most of the time, no matter
where I am on Sunday night, I will
start toward home. Something about
Sunday night....just got to start
home. I drove about an hour and
couldn't keep my eyes open so I
decided to get a hotel room and
finish the trip the next day. I
stopped in Morgantown WV at a
Comfort Inn and just as I pulled
into the parking spot at the hotel,
I heard a pop. I got out to see if I
had hit the curb, but I hadn't. But
I did notice that my right wheel was
heading north and my left tire was
heading south! NOT A GOOD THING!!!!!
So the next morning I called a
wrecker service and was towed
downtown to Ervin's Garage. I sat
there in the "waiting room" from
8:30 am until 5:30 pm. As you can
imagine, Ervin's is not a big place.
Two metal folding chairs was all
that was in the lounge area! I sat
there and sat there and sat there
until I started going crazy (no
smart remarks here please) so I
finally decided to walk over to the
downtown area. It was quite a hike.
I didn't have my hitchhiking thumb
out but some man stopped and offered
me a ride. So I toured Morgantown
(15 minutes max) I found a Dollar
General Store and a Dollar Store and
a Hot Wings Place and a men's store
named Daniels. After a little while,
I walked back across the bridge to
Ervin's in hopes that they would
have me fixed and ready to go, only
to find, the part that broke was
being brought in and supposed it
would be ready about 5 pm. So I sat
down on the metal folding chair
again and waited. During the course
of the afternoon, I began to talk to
the dispatcher. She was nice and
seemed sorry that I had to sit
there. She asked what I did and I
told her and then gave her a CD.
Well....the word spread, so all the
guys from the shop wanted CD's. I
was glad to get out of there. I had
lost a day, most of the Sunday night
offering. . . .And quite a few CD'S!
This past weekend I was in
Birmingham AL and Kingston GA.
Birmingham was a great night. Alvin
Currington again had promoted the
concert at the Eastside Baptist
Church and it was great seeing my
friends in Birmingham. I was
surprised to see some out of town
friends there.....Joseph Ng came
from Queens NY, Laverne and Glenda
Grant came from Jefferson, TX, and
Alberta Hunt came from Houston, TX.
The Down East Boys were on the
concert with me and they did a great
job. They are a great quartet. On
the second round, I formed a quartet
for "Wedding Music". I was going to
have the Down East Boys sing with me
but some of them were on their bus
changing clothes so I asked for
volunteers out of the audience. Now
I know. . . . . you never know what
you are getting when you ask for
volunteers. . . .but I was already
committed. The guy that said he was
a baritone singer was really really
great. On the first line, I could
tell he heard harmony parts
naturally and could sing any part. I
was immediately confident with him.
The little guy that said he was a
bass singer looked to be about
twenty years old. In my mind, I said
"Sure he can sing bass". Well I was
pleasantly surprised. This kid sat
down on those notes and sang like a
pro. He sang the entire second verse
by himself and the audience stood up
and cheered! So naturally I had him
encore the verse again. This time he
sang it even better and more
confident. The crowd LOVED him. I
found out later that he actually
sings in a group called The Old
Paths Quartet. So if they are in
your area... . . you need to check
them out.
The next day, I drove up to Kingston
Ga for a concert at the United
Methodist Church. The crowd wasn't
very big but I guess I enjoyed
singing there as much as anywhere in
a long time. It was a very relaxed
evening, I just sang my favorite
songs. It was the strangest
combination of songs I have done in
a long time, but I really enjoyed
it. I dont know if the audience did
or not but I sure did! The Mayor of
Kingston, Payton Silvers put the
evening together and it was very
nice meeting him and his family.
Pictures of he and his sons on
the website. When I left Kingston, I
headed north to TN and arrived home
after midnight.
Last night, Pootie and I walked thru
the neighborhood again! The lady
down the street named Gracie baked
me a fresh skillet of cornbread and
strawberry shortcake! And I saw Kami
with the
www.perkupcoffeecompany.com
. She asked me to say how much they
appreciate hearing from a lot of the
Krew members and they have a special
going this month thats on their
website. So thank you gals and guys
for visiting their website and
ordering.

great time. So we are expecting
another good trip in February. While

fighting the snow and ice, we will
be sunning it in the ocean!
Keep my Mom in your prayers. Her
memory is getting worse. I was up
there last week and she was trying
to tell me something about Roger and
Debra. She couldn't remember Debra's
name and finally she called her
"that girl that Roger took"! I had
to laugh and ask Mama where Roger
took her! Her reply was priceless!
"Oh hush or I will take you out
...... back".
So "what'shername" now has a new
title!
Keep praying for July schedule. As
you can see, there is very little
