In the past
two weeks I have been from Florida to Michigan, from short sleeves to
overcoats, from hot to cold! Last weekend I sang in Bradenton and Sarasota,
FL. I decided to enjoy an extra day in Florida so I took my time and drove so
I would have some extra time in the Sunshine State. During the month of
February, many many gospel artists sing in FL. Triumphant Quartet was
singing in Zephyrhills, FL on Friday night so I stopped in to hear them. What
a great quartet. If you ever have the chance to hear them, please go and tell
them that I sent you.
I was
walking through a mall that afternoon and I saw Lily Fern Weatherford from a
distance. So I decided to sneak up behind her and scare her. I hid behind a
counter in the department store and then started walking directly behind her.
As I started talking to her, she kept turning around to see who was doing the
talking. As she turned her head, I would try to dodge her. Finally she was
quick enough to see it was me and she grabbed me and hugged me right there in
Dillards! It was good to see her again. What a great lady and a great
singer.
Roger and
Peggy Battles had invited me to the First Baptist Church of Samoset
(Bradenton) It was a great concert. The place was packed. They put out
extra chairs and even opened a section of the auditorium that they normally
don't use. It was so good to see a lot of people from up north that
was spending the winter months in sunny Florida. The audience was so easy to
sing to and they seemed to soak in the testimony. After the service, Roger
and Peggy and their girls and some friends treated me to a sandwich at Steak
and Shake. If you happen to go to Bradenton and have several hours to kill. .
. . . . . . . .Go to that Steak and Shake! I finally had to call
the restaurant from our table to get someone to wait on us. An hour and half
later, still no food! When we finally left the restaurant, we all asked for
comment cards. Guess what--they couldn't find one! Imagine that!
Sunday night,
the 20th, I sang at Bible Community Church in Sarasota. Larry and Mary
Woomert have been friends of mine for a long time. They invited me to come
sing at their church many months ago. It was good to see (again) many people
from up north (snowbirds). Several Krew members showed up that night. The
service was great, several people came to the altar to pray at the end of the
service.
Today I
arrived back in Tennessee from the weekend in Michigan. I zig-zagged across
the state several times during the past few days. I started in Concord
Michigan at Hilltop Chapel Church. Snow was covering the ground and it was
piled high in the parking lot. But Pastor Jonathan Watters and his
congregation made me feel so warm and welcome. I had a great time singing
there. The concert was held in the annex building which used to be a popular
night spot. Actually it was a sports bar for several years, and then a punk
band bar before the church bought the property. Now the youth of the church
are using it and finally some good things are happening there. It was good to
see some old friends as well as make some new friends. It was good to meet
some Krew members that night after the service was over.
Don Hollinger
came over from Pennsylvania to help me at the product table for the entire
weekend. Rick Lafollette went to Michigan with me so the two of them had fun
working the table at each concert. Don is short in stature and Rick picks on
him all the time. Watch for some new pictures on the website soon of the two
of them clowning around at the table.
Saturday
morning, we drove east to Dundee Michigan to the world famous Cabella's
Hunting and Fishing store. I was amazed at all the stuff that was in that
store. I learned a lot about wild life! There are some amazing animals in
that store! We stayed there for a couple of hours and then headed to Spring
Lake for a Trio Concert at the High School.
We arrived in
Spring Lake about 3 PM -just in time to practice a few songs with Shane
Dunlap, the new lead singer with the Trio. But honestly, we didn't need to
practice. He knew all the songs, all the words, all the arrangements, and we
didn't have to even feed him the words! How refreshing! It was so good to
see Anthony and Lou Ann and Lori again.
We had a great
time onstage together. At one point, while Anthony was doing one of his jazzy
numbers, Shane and I left the stage, and in a band room we found some marching
band hats! So when we re appeared on the stage, we were having fun trying to
crack Anthony up. We gave Anthony the feather in his hat since he was the
"band leader." (He hits play and pause!) It was good to see several friends
that I haven't seen in a while. I met some Krew members for the first time,
and we took lots of pictures for the webpage. They should be posted in the
next day or two.
After the
concert in Spring Lake, we headed due east again, all the way across the state
back to Detroit area. Sunday morning, I sang at The Troy Church of the
Nazarene. Pastor Dennis Wegner started the church a few years ago and has
really worked to grow the church. Dave and Sherry McLaughlin invited me there
and it was such a sweet service. After I sang and gave my testimony, I
invited people to come pray at the altar. When I stood up to lead the
congregation in singing, the altar was filled with people. The congregation
was so sweet to me. They agreed they would pray for me daily and especially
Sunday evening as I sang again in Benton Harbor.
As soon as we
left Troy, we headed back west to the very western part of the state.
Benton Harbor sits right on Lake Michigan, so we crisscrossed the state (of
course, we never broke the speed limit) I sang at the General Baptist Church
in Benton Harbor and again had a great service! Doug Dunn invited me to "make
myself at home" in his sanctuary, and I did, and it was a great service.
Again in the invitation time, lots of people came forward.

Be sure and
make plans to Join me and Greater Vision and Mark Trammell Trio in Birmingham
on the 19th of March! It will be a great evening of great music and
fellowship. For ticket info go to
www.curringtonpromotions.com
I heard a
funny story this weekend. Three little boys in grammar school were
participating in Show and Tell. Their teacher had asked them to bring in
something that related to their religion. The first little boy came in and
said "I'm Jewish, this is the Star of David." The second little boy came in
and said "I'm Catholic, and this is a crucifix." The last little boy came in
and said "I'm Baptist and this is a casserole dish."
You all are
great! Hope to see you all soon.
Oops, I
almost forgot, Dot wanted me to remind you of the next concert in Maryville,
TN. It will be a Talley's reunion. The Talley Trio will join me for the only
Talley Reunion date in the Southeast this year. Hopefully our parents will be
able to join us on that evening. Dot is already selling lots of tickets for
this concert. If you want info or to order tickets, contact her at
Dottie820@aol.com The concert is May 7, (Not June 7th, Dot! ) That was
just for Dot. I had to get her back. She sent me to the courthouse last week
for a hearing that I needed to attend. I sat there and sat there and waited
and waited, looking for the person connected with the case, but he never
showed up. After an hour or so, I asked an attorney for another case if I was
in the correct place. He looked at my paper work and replied "Yes, You are in
the right room, but you are a month early, and I wouldn't wait."
OK, I have
rambled enough! Hope to see you all in the next few weeks.
