I am sitting here watching it NOT
SNOW. Weather man said last night,
1-4 inches and so far all we have is
a light dusting. I know, I know,
some of you will say "well you can
have all of ours that you want". I
know that lots of areas have had
more than their share this winter.
I had a great time in
NC this past weekend. Friday
night, I sang in Wilson NC at the
Fike High School Auditorium. Dean
Ethridge promoted this concert, a
benefit for his brother, Scottie.
Scottie is a special young man who
needs much care and this entire
night was to raise funds for that
much needed care. The auditorium was
nearly full of Southern Gospel
Lovers. The Royal Descendants were
great, as usual. Denny Sutton, their
tenor is such a great man, with a
great heart and a great testimony. I
also met a new group called The
Bledsoes. They are from
Mt. Airy, North Carolina,
actually Pilot Mountain. I know some
of you have heard of Mount Pilot,
from the Mayberry RFD program, well
the correct name is Pilot Mountain.
And the Bledsoes live there. They
are a great family with several
different combinations of harmonies
and arrangements. They even sang one
of my songs, "Garden Of Grace" that
I wrote years and years and years
ago. I didn't even remember the
words as they were singing along!
But it is a good song, (if I have to
say so myself). I may go back and
record that myself!
Sunday morning, I sang in
Drexel, NC at the First
Church of God. It was great to see
Kyle Canerday and Pastor Tidway
again. Also, Carroll and Marjorie
Smith were there and it was good
seeing them. After a good worship
service on Sunday morning, we all
headed out to O'Charley's for a good
meal and some fun fellowship.
Naturally I had my favorite meal
there, the Bayou Shrimp Pasta!
Sunday night, I was in Hickory
NC at the First Church of
God. There were a lot of friends
there that I hadn't seen in years.
Steve Lee, former Cathedral
Baritone, came and I made him play a
song for me. Bob Conley and his
wife, Cathy, were there. Bob and I
traveled together with the Hoppers
back in the 70's. Robert and Gayle
Conley (Bob's parents) were there
too. They are going on the cruise
with me in a few weeks. Joe and Ann
Mckenzie and Nokie Huffman came from
Winston Salem area...they are
going on the cruise too. We had a
good service in Hickory and I
appreciated the opportunity to be
there.
After the service, I headed back to
Tennessee. As I crossed Black
Mountain, the snow was blowing and
the roads started getting slick, but
I just kept driving. I stopped in
Asheville for my last
Carolina Classic for the weekend. I
also bought some windshield cleaner
and an ice scraper and headed on
toward
Tennessee. As I drove deeper
into the gorge on Interstate 40, the
weather turned worse. Finally I was
on a solid sheet of ice, with many
cars off in the ditches. Most of the
trucks were just pulling over. There
were a few brave cars who tried to
maneuver the hills. Of course I am
one of those! But I made it all the
way home with no mishaps!
I am working on a special weekend in
April. April the 21st, I will be
singing here in Knoxville, actually
here in the parking lot of my
office! I rent office space from
David Hayes, the owner of David's
Carpets and once a year he does a
customer appreciation concert here
under a huge tent. So this year, I
will be singing on that concert
along with with The Crist Family,
Mike Bowling Group and the Gospel
Enforcers. That concert is from 11
am-3 pm. So I am inviting all the
Krew to come be with me at that
concert. I am working on some Krew
activities after the concert and the
next day. It involves a concert, a
Cumberland Playhouse Production Play
of Smoke On the Mountain Reunion, A
Sunday Morning Worship service,
finishing the weekend off with the
best ribs you will ever eat. Tony
Gore's Pig Palace is the place for
the finale. I don't have all the
details worked out yet, but working
on that now. So write that weekend
down on your calendar and plan on
being with us. All the details will
be in the next newsletter.
Please keep praying for my parents,
the sale of the Auto Lube, and my
schedule. I sure appreciate your
support and your love!
