CommentsI called the singing news this morning and found out that because, of anthonys death they stoped the survey about Kirk Talley. They said they would do it again at a later date. Lets all email or phone them to tell them we would like to see this survey resumed immediately. Let's press them for a specific date. I sure hope this is not just a way for them to slither around the results of the survey.

CommentsDear Kirk,
I know so many have shared the loss of Anthony with you but I have a little story that my husband reminded me of about him. Several years ago, the Kingmen were in our area and had a canceled date and they were to perform the next night in the vicinity also. The
talent agent called my husband who was the producing some in our little town and asked if he could find someplace for them to sing that night just for a love offering. My husband called the pastor of the largest church in our community and he said they would be glad to have them. The offering was received and counted and
it was only 880.00 for the guys but Anthony was so grateful when Ralph gave him the money and thanked him
for helping them not have to spend time
sitting on the bus with no place to go.
After a little while, Anthony came back and handed my husband the 80.00 and
said we want you to use this money and take you family out to dinner in appreciation of what you did for us. There have been several encounters with Anthony over the years and he never forgot my husbands name or failed to recognize him whe he walked to his record table. We are so sad because of his connection of helping you and will
pray as you perform your duties to
minister to his family and friends.

CommentsGood evening, Kirk,
So many have already mentioned Anthony's death, etc. That's not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about how much I have missed seeing you and hearing that beautiful tenor voice. I get so angry (righteously so) when people (usually the holier-than-thou bunch) decide they have every right to judge. I have learned it is not for me to judge or even inspect the fruit. My job is to try to help the hurting along their path. It's real difficult for your brother to fall if you have your arm around him.. I must say I was stunned when I heard the "news." But it didn't make one ounce of difference about how I felt about you. I just added you onto my prayer list. I wished and still do that there could be something I could do to make your load lighter. I am a physician assistant specializing in psychiatry and also a psychotherapist. It is a God-given talent. I often discern emotions and feelings and people are comfortable with me and tell me their stories - sometimes deep hidden secrets. I am privileged now to work with the Veterans of the United States. I finally get to give back something to those who fought for my freedom and are still fighting. There are battles of all types. Kirk, keep searching the face of God as you travel this road called life. Afterall, in the end it's what God thinks and knows that matters. I know that I care about you as my brother in Christ and hope to see you soon when you get nearby. I have a story I would like to share with you about Anthony; but it's not anything that needs to be written or told in this forum. Blessings,
beth

CommentsKirk - Just got your e-mail concerning the funeral arrangements for Anthony, and my heart was so touched to hear that you were going to be a part of the services. It broke my heart that you were not allowed to participate for George's funeral, and I had been praying since Thursday that you would be allowed to be a part of the tribute for your friend. I got "Jesus-bumps" when I read the answer to my prayers had come!

CommentsKirk,
Just read your testimony. Keep the faith. I had a good friend that had the same problem and God delivered him from that problem. He sang and ministered up until the time of his death and was a blessing to many. I had the good opportunity to help play music on a cd he made before his death. God is no respector of persons. I know you will miss Anthony. In a time of crisis, you find out who rally cares. I love the song Serenaded by Angels. It is a real blessing

CommentsJust a quick note to let you know that we recently got a new gospel music station here in Saskatchewan called 100.5 THE ROCK making a difference and they play alot of Michael W Smith, etc. We've mentioned your name as well as others and they haven't heard of you or any others that we know. They must be far out. Because we asked for your music to be played on the station. And I'm even considering letting them use my cd to get newer things on. For instance my kids love Kenny Bishop as well. Go figure why they don't know any one of you...Rhonda

CommentsKirk,
First and foremost, am I deeply sadden to learn of Anthony's passing, our loss and heaven's gain. I will be remember the Burger family in prayer. I remember one year when Gaither Homecoming was here in Tulsa, OK. and the following morning, Anthony played at the 1st Church of the Nazarene in Claremore, OK. It was a blessing to watch him hit those ivories and such a joy to listen too him play, I will continue enjoying and receiving a blessing from listening to his music.
Kirk, I am hoping you can get a booking here in Tulsa, OK. some day! It would be a treat and joy to see you again in person. I haven't seen you since Cathedral days. Take care and blessings to you and your staff.

Comments"To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven." My deepest condolences to you at the loss of such a true friend and Christian brother as Anthony Burger. To say that he will be missed is truly an understatement. Time will heal the wound of this loss but his memory and friendship will live on. We were looking forward to seeing and hearing him again this summer at Boyd. There will be a void at that concert. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Anthony's family at this time. Keep singing. God bless.

CommentsKirk, First and foremost, I am so sorry for the passing of Anthony, Earth's loss, Heaven's gain. Secondly, we are all tempted in different areas. Satan would like for us to think we are the only one struggling against sin but believe me I have had my struggles and still do. My thought is this, if God did not have big plans for my life, my struggle would not be as intense. God judges the heart and Kirk, I know the feeling of not wanting to live. I attempted suicide but God had other plans. That was 10 years ago, still struggling, yes but not giving up until the day Jesus comes to rescue us all or He decides to take me home. Take care and blessings to you and yours. Patti

Kirk, one of my friends forwarded the letter from you about Anthony yesterday and I wrote back to her and asked what you had been through and she gave me your website. Today I read your testimony and also many of the comments from your Christian supporters
who were so willing to speak out. We had wondered why we had not see any of your scheduled dates and then we saw the one on February 12 at the Nazerene Church here in Knoxville and planned to attend but I had some illness that prevented it. I am sure you do not remember us, but the night that Gerald Wolfe played with the Cathedrals for the first time we saw you and your family when Lauren was very small and sang. On our way to Lebanon, VA, we stopped at a Waffle House and your bus pulled in and you came and sat with us and were so nice. We had seen you many years earlier when you sang with the Hoppers at at an appliance store just outside of Lebanon, VA. I am not sure how I would react if my son told me of his attraction for someone of the same sex, but I do know that God would still love him and so would I and that my prayers would be to allow God to give him mercy and grace and deal with this sin, just as I would ask him to deal with any other sin in his life or mine. I do not think sin is prioritized and I know that God is always ready to forgive. I just pray that you will not let some of the hurtful words and attitudes do anything other than inspire you to speak out and minister to others who share your hurt and other hurts. I do agree also that many of those who are "in the business" of gospel music react differently than those who are in "the ministry" of gospel music. We look forward to coming to hear you minister in God's name next month in Maryville.

CommentsMy condolences on the passing of Anthony B. What a great musician and christian. Your testimony was so heart rendering I was so touched by your feelings and the response from the christian community. We are to hate the sin but love the one struggling. The devil seems to use this against so many Christian musicians it is truly a struggle and fight. Thank you for your straight forward testimony. May God continue to bless and keep you.

CommentsKirk,
I just read your testimony, and was so moved by it. I will be praying for you and I know that forgiveness is real. I have had times in my life when I thought no one loved me at all, and thru my tears I would see my Precious Savior Jesus Christ with his arms open wide. I love the song "forgiven again" that EH&SS sing and I know I am forgiven daily of my sins.
In Christs Love,

CommentsDear Kirk,
Oh how my heart hurts for you dear brother. I have often found that Christians often shoot their wounded. I am so thankful there have been true and faithful Godly men and women who have stood with you, prayed for you and continue to hold you accountable. There are many in the gospel music industry and in the pulpits who have secret lives and who live lies everyday. God's Word is true "be sure your sins will find you out." You have confessed your sins and you have been forgiven by the Blood of Jesus Christ. How much more are we your brothers and sisters to forgive you. You have been a favorite singer of mine since you were with the Cathedrals. We will continue to pray for you and we look forward to the day we see you return to minister in song
again. May God bless you.
In Christ,
Karen Shanlian

CommentsI just read Kirk's testimony. Having just heard early this morning of Anthony's death....I am reminded that God is a God of grace and forgiveness...We as a Body of Christ need to restore our brothers and sisters in Christ continually and start looking for the lost sheep and bring them back into the fold. Kirk, we love you, we pray for you, and have the confidence that you are indeed a man of God serving our risen Savior. Keep seeking God's face so that one day we again can hear the Trio singing on the other side of Jordan.

CommentsEven though I can't find the words to say how sorry I am to hear about Anthony, please know that I will be praying for you as well, Kirk. It seems Anthony has been a friend to you not only in the good times but also in the bad times. And friends like that are not easy to find. Please know that my soul cries with you and everyone else over this too-soon, too-young passing of such a wonderful person.
Let's all try harder to "keep the faith" and keep these folks' faith and determination living after them.

CommentsAs I learned tonight about Anthony Burgers passing, I am thinking about what a great friend he was to you and how he stood behind you, beside you and at times I'm sure in front of you. I admire people like that, who are genuine to thier beliefs and morals. And people who are willing to stand beside others.
I really wish that I had a friend like that when I went through a similar circumstance many years ago. I have made my choice and no longer attend church or have any associations with people who are so much more Holy than I am. I have ocme to the conclusion that I am in a hopeless situation and have no more desire to fight. I'm glad to say that the people who have fought you so hard did not win over you because of people like Anthony and others that stood beside you. I am very proud of you and you know that and I am so happy that people like Anthony looked past your circumstance into your heart. I wish I had that kind of friend.
My heart is with Anthony's family and I offer my continued support for your ministry

Words cannot convey my sympathy for all his family and friends. God be with you all.

CommentsDear Kirk
I think of you often and thank God that you are so honost about your feelings and I think you are helping other people that are going through the same thing that you've been through. Keep up the good work and who are we to judge? The Bible tells us "Judge not lest ye be judged." There is no big sin or little sin, if it's sin that's just what it is!!! My prayers are with you and you have a beautiful voice so use it for the glory of God.

CommentsKirk, I'm a 57 year old Grandma. I awoke early this morning as I often do when God is trying to tell me something about my life or loved ones. You were on my mind. God seemed to be telling me to pray for you, which I have done and will continue to do. I saw you in concert and have several of your CD's. They are such a blessing to me. I believe, as God's people, we need to be forgiving of one another. We each have our own temptations and weak points. Given the right set of circumstances, we are all just a step away from becoming part of something we know God would not be proud of. As Christians, we need to build each other up and share one another's burdens. I believe sometimes Christians become too legalistic and hurt Christians who are trying to grow and overcome their temptations and problems. I will continue to keep you in my prayers. Your ministry through song is such a blessing; and you may find that for every one person who looks down upon you, there are two who are willing to pray for you, support you, and build you up in the Lord. May God be with you and show you his will for your life.
Love in Christ.

CommentsI was very glad to hear you again on wfcafm108 the other day. The song that you sang, Seranaded By Angels, is one of my favorite. I lost my mother almost 2 years ago and I wanted to sing her that song but others did not want me to sing it because they thought I could not make through. I know where mom is and I know that she is with God. I felt more peace by just thinking of the words that is in the song. Then a day and a half later, my mother's sister went to be with the Lord. You know, Things like this I could ask why but there is no reason to. God knew their timing and I am so glad that God gave you the song like HE did. Keep singing for HIM and don't ever doubt him. HE is in total control. Many blessings will bestow upon you in your ministry.

CommentsHello Mr. Talley. I read your interview a few months back in Esquire magazine, if I recall correctly. Immediately I was touched and affected. I was touched with how you struggled with this thing for years but always kept your belief in God. Never once did I feel that you were trying to justify the existence of your emotions as proof that your attraction was right in God's eyes. I admired that about you because it shows strength, strength to be able to say "I feel this desire, but I know to act on it would be wrong." I was affected by the reactions you experienced upon various individuals and people learning of your struggle. It showed me how lacking people can be even though they think they are abundant. The Church today is full of people who think that loving God and submitting to Him in rightousness and salvation is the equivalent of completely ridding themselves of temptation and sinful desires. The Church is also full of people who, though the Bible does not sanction it, reason that certain sins are excusable and others are not. No sin is excusable. There is no Lower Hell and Higher Hell (one for the "lesser" sins and one for the "greater" sins). Everybody in church struggles with something. Whether it be lying, gossiping, sexual lewdness, backbiting, pride, or whatever else the bible designates as a sin - we all have a struggle. But people have convinced themselves that certain struggles are excusable, but others are a sign of someone being "unsavable." Mr. Talley, I want you to know that one, you are not alone in your particular struggle, many have had to bear that cross. Two, you are not alone in the fact that you struggle. We all struggle, we all fall short of the gloy. And anyone who hates you for your struggle, well that person is struggling more so than you - you struggle with a particular temptation, as all struggle with temptation; they struggle with hate, which is the opposite of God (because God is love). I don't say that to degrade them or imply they are less than you, I say it to let you know

CommentsI remember an old Homecoming tape where the singers joined hands and sang "Your my brother, your my sister, so take me by the hand. Together we will work until He comes......" I thought how close everybody seems to be, and how I wish I had a church family that close. (I went to a church for six months once where only a couple of people ever bothered to shake my hand..let alone wanted to "make friends"). I can't believe the treatment Kirk has gotten from the Southern Gospel Music Industry because of the temptations he battles. If they pulled off all the CD's from all the music stores of every christian singer who battled being "tempted" to commit adultery or to fornicate....if they pulled off all the CD's from all the music stores of every christian singer who struggled with "lustful" thoughts or who was addicted to masturbation.....and if they pulled off all the CD's of every OTHER christian singer who struggled with "same-sex attraction".........the shelves would be pretty much empty.
How I longed to be a part of a christian "family" like the Homecoming singers, but apparently when push came to shove, their love and loyalty was as superficial as their hairpieces and facelifts.
It is the teaching in my church that same-sex ATTRACTION is not a sin, but same-sax BEHAVIOR as well as heterosexual BEHAVIOR outside of marriage that is sinful.
The only thing Kirk did wrong was to trust an anonymous christian brother on the Internet that he could open up to, when there was NOBODY in person he could open up with.....and to trust that the christian music industry was more about ministry than it was about money.
If Kirk, a christian, is cast aside because of his struggles, how do we expect non-christians to ever come to the christian community? They already have enough problems, as is.
God help all chrisitans to remember just exactly it means to be "under grace."

CommentsI remember the day the story broke about your encounter with the extortionist. I was working for a well-known Christian Bookstore at the time and we were ordered to pull your music from our shelves. I would not be a part of that hipocrisy so my manager excused me from that duty. (God has since given me another position where I attend church and also doubled my salary) You see, I have a 27 year old son who is openly gay. I love him, he is a wonderful son and brother. He is loved by everyone who meets him. I know what a struggle it was for him so I certainly understood your struggle. My son was saved when he was 9 years old. He is very talented, plays the piano and sings. He recently graduated from the University of Tennessee and has a good job with UT Hospital. He is also working on his Masters. When I found out about his sexual preference, I did not know what to do and I thought I was going to lose my mind. Finally, I gathered up enough courage to begin to ask people around me to pray for him. My philosphy is love the sinner, hate the sin. I pray for my son everyday. I pray that God invades his dreams and he doesn't rest until he gathers the faith that you had and believes that God can help him overcome his problem. I believe in the power of prayer. I have had too many prayers answered not to believe and my son has been saved. Everytime Satan tries to tell me that he has not accepted Christ the holy spirit take me back to that Sunday morning when I knelt with him at the altar and that's as far back as Satan can take me also. I just keep thinking about what Paul said; "I know whom I have believed in and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed safe against that day. So you see I have no doubt that my son will recommit himself to Christ. Of course I am selfish and want it right now but God's ways are not our ways and his timing is not our timing. However, his ways are perfect and balanced and if we are left to ourselves we know no balance.
Yours Because of Calvary;

CommentsKirk,
What a wonderful blessing to have you and your special guests "2 or More" at
Knoxville First Church of the Nazarene last night. We were all touched by your testimony, great singing and songs, and what a treat to hear those beautiful harmonies from "Two or More". We'll remember this for a long time. We look forward to having you back again. If you
haven't seen Kirk in concert...check him out..you'll be blessed. God's blessings

CommentsBecause of our culture, our faith, and our teachings, any reference to this "taboo" sin makes people uncomfortable. Yet, it is real and is a real struggle for many. As I've read these posts, I see that you minister to so many on all sides of this issue, those who have suffered alone in silence. I understand those who are morally opposed, and that is perfectly within their right. What I do not understand is how we as Christians hope to solve anything by ignoring what lies in front of us and just hating the sinner. I grew up in the most loving, supporting church, yet there were a couple of sins that seemingly were never forgiven. Is this right? We are all so hurtful to one another. Can we finally pray for one another, without condemnation? Let Jesus be the judge, and let us do what He commanded...."Pray without ceasing." When we do that, I'm sure we will be in a different frame of mind. Thank you Kirk for your honesty, your spirit, and for allowing God to still use you even when things are not so easy. No matter where we are on this journey, let's love each other and pray for God's best. ~Darren

CommentsI live in Nashville, TN. Through it all I have been faithful to support your ministry. I just wanted to say 'Thank you for not giving up'. Especially when there are so many in this world who thought you should. God is working in your life and in your ministry, that is very evident! I look forward to attending more of your concerts here in TN. I also wanted you to know that I signed both petitions. What a good idea! Thank you for giving us the chance to show our support of you in that way. Many blessings! Kaylyn Cope, Nashville, TN

Just wanted to say that I love your website and have always loved your voice. God is USING you! Everyone goes through trials in life but the Grace of God gets us through them. I know that you will be STRONGER in ministry than ever before as you share your life with others. There are soooo many hurting people out there and you can really be a blessing to ALL. TRUST IN THE LORD ALWAYS. SEE YOURSELF AS GOD SEES YOU...AS HIS SAVED SON. May GOD always BLESS you.

CommentsHeartbreaking. Very heartbreaking.
While Kirk was ministering to thousands and at the peak of his popularity, he went home alone and had nobody to share the burden of his soul with.
He ministered to many, but he had nobody to minister to him.
The big news story should not be what Kirk's struggles are. The BIG news failure should be what's wrong in the Church?
Thank God that Kirk had enough depth in his faith to hold onto Jesus. God help all of those who don't have as much strength and are depending on US to help hold them up.

CommentsI've been following you and the Talley Trio for years -- have your Trio CD and many Gaither videos -- but was only recently made aware of what you've been going through the past couple of years. Your story is my story -- married, have wonderful children, but eventually divorced. As you know, I am sure, there are lots of us -- more, even, than anyone can imagine. To me, my life isn't a struggle -- it's "who I am" and, in that context, I try to be as loving and accepting as I can of everybody, no matter who/what they are. Love is powerful, love is strong, love renews. Be strong in who you are, don't let narrow-minded, hypocritical people who think they are "better" than you are -- or more "perfect" than you are -- get you down. Be thankful for who you are. You are special, you are you! Live fully. I'm now a grandfather and it took me nearly a life-time to understand that. If you believe God made you, then he made you as you are.

CommentsKirk, it is heartbreaking to read your testimony and to learn how much deep lonliness you have had to overcome for so much of your life. It is also tragic the lack of christian compassion you have been shown by many in the church, who are so judgmental about your struggles. I am sure you would have given anything to have one christian friend you could open up with to discuss your struggles with over the years, but you knew how most people would react.
I believe that the reason you cried so much for so long was not because you were feeling your own pain, but I believe you were feeling the pain of almost all of us. Every believer, whatever the struggle, struggles with SOMETHING, and so many of us, even in the Body of Christ, feel so very alone at times, that we cannot really be open with anybody.
Some believers treat you like a leper because of your own particular cross that you carry, but deep down MOST BELIEVERS feel alone, and almost all carry something, feeling nobody else cares or understands.
I believe God has allowed you to go through this very difficult test in order to use you more effectively as an intercessory prayer warrior, feeling the pain that so many of us in the body of Christ feel, let alone those still in the world.
Very few could handle the cross you have been asked to carry publicly. Few of us would be that strong. You give hope to MANY people that you can struggle with something, even something huge, but God will be there with you, fighting WITH you, and on your side, even when the Church seemingly abandons you.
Thank you, Kirk, for not giving up on the Lord, and I hope you know how much God is using you to minister to those who the Church cannot hardly reach anymore, because the Church has tossed them aside.
God bless you.

CommentsDear Kirk,
I ordered your latest CD on Friday the
3rd, received it on the 6th. Thats great
service. Thanks to Dot!
I want you to know my husband and I sat down and listened to it without even
speaking, we were blown away by the
sound of your voice singing hymns that
we have sung all our lives. THIS CD
REALLY MINISTERS! Thank you so much again for a wonderful job( that word does not really fit but--) service
in music for us to hear over and over again. I agree with a person who wrote yesterday that someday god will lift the burden and wow! what might be in store for you then. You have been called for a purpose and you are doing the job(there is that word again) well my friend

CommentsI was @ your concert yesterday and I thought you were great. It must be awsome to have such a God given talent. Your testimony really rocked me, you are a very brave man! The thought came to me while I listened, that even though you have been and will continue to probably go through even more pain that you have been chosen by God to speak to so many many people about such a delicate subject. If people will just search their hearts and realize what your test. is really all about. We, including me struggle with the sins of the flesh everyday we live but we have an awsome God that forgives and heals. I have no doubt in my mind that He'll take away this burden someday away from you, but not until he completes his plan. Iknow you have probably heard this before but I just wanted you to know I'm in your conner and I know thats in God's conner. God Bless you and your ministry, I'll be praying for you.

CommentsHi. Kirk, I just wanted to stop by and once again say a BIG thank you to you for answering our questions from the Kirk Talley webring. I also wanted to thank any of you that voted in the Kirk Talley fan site competition. We are now one big site instead of a webring. kirktalleyfans.bravehost.com Again, Kirk thank you so very much. It was so sweet of you to reply to us. We greatly appreciate it! Remember that God loves you!

CommentsWhat an AWESOME testimony. God's grace if sufficient. I happened upon your testimony this evening while reviewing some commentary from Phil Hoskins. Know that there are MANY others, including myself, who struggle with the same sex attraction. But, like you, I have accepted that it is a carnal desire that is a sin and GOD'S GRACE IS SUFFICIENT. Your and your family's music has been an inspiration for my family for many years. You are now in my prayers.

CommentsKirk, Walk in the Spirit and know that in our flesh dwelleth no good thing but you can make it through Christ who strengthens you. Psalm 39 says He knew you before you were in your Mother's womb so He made you and is always there for you. Don't worry about what man thinks but only what God thinks. He loves you very much. I pray the Holy Spirit will continue to comfort your through all the hurt you have suffered for just being honest. God desires truth in your inward parts...abide under the shadow of His wings and He will keep you. Though the enemy comes in like a flood the Lord will raise up a standard against him for you..because He loves you.
