Dear Kirk: I am so glad you're singing again and doing concerts. I am planning on traveling to Indianapolis on March 12 to see you again. It will be well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive to get there. Hopefully the weather will be good too. It's been almost 2 years now since I saw you last. I've been praying for you. Glad you are doing so well now. And glad you're web site is back too. Keep the faith.

Mr Talley, My wife and I heard your testimony tonight for the first time. We have loved your music for years. But tonight we saw a stronger, more focused Kirk Talley than ever before. We are both professionals and we understand a lot about your struggles. We commend you for your honesty and your sacrafice. You are truly one of a kind. You ministered out of brokenness. It wasn't just a show. Sure, you entertained us, we laughed, we loved your stories of how you wrote some of the songs, your interaction with the audience was superb, far better than most southern gospel artists that we have seen. But your honestly simply blew us away. We know that honest people minister from their brokenness. We raised our standards of what he like tonight. No more professional "programs" for us. You raised the standard tonight. Thank you HC and Kathy McFren

Hi Kirk, I recently had the privilege of seeing a tape of your trio and was amazed at your performance and enjoyed it tremendously. It does seem sad though that despite no real record of success by the ex-gay movement, the increasing knowledge that homosexuality is how people are made, not a choice and modern bible scholarship updating the "homosexual" passages, you are burdening yourself so much. Of course, this is a "religious" war and I can see that you have reasons for your stance, but I'm praying that God will set you free in a true sense. Alan

I have been reading the comments on your guestbook for quite awhile now, and the one thing that comes through to me loud and clear is that you have a whole lot of people who truly love you, respect you, and believe in you. I hope you know just how truly blessed that makes you, my friend. I am so glad that you keep telling us which of the singers are standing by you, because these are the ones who know what it means to be a Christian and to walk hand in hand with our Blessed Lord. I can only imagine what pain you have suffered all these years, and I am so glad that you are putting it in God's hands, because that is the only way that you will be able to conquer and triumph over your demons. I know that you will do it and I thank God every day for all those beautiful fans of yours that are standing up for you and are not ashamed to say that they believe in you!!!!!! I will be at any concert that I can make it to and I will support you and your ministry in every way that I possibly can. Don Hollinger keeps me posted on how you are doing and I am grateful for that. Stand tall and don't let anyone make you hang your head in shame. You are one of God's beautiful people that He loves so much and I know that you will make Him proud. I hope all of you fans out there will not only continue to pray for Kirk, but to also pray that God will open the hearts and minds of all the "christians" who make a mockery of the term. We need to all be loving, understanding, and supportive of anyone who is going through a trial of any kind and to know that, but for the grace of God, there we may be, also. Have a great week-end, Kirk and feel the LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!

I attended your concert, Kirk, in ConCORD :) last Friday and I was so moved by your testimony. I had read it on your site but it meant so much more at the concert-live. FYI: I'm the one who lost it while you sang "Serenaded by Angels". Anyway, I am amazed at the pain you endured and at how God has changed you. Nobody has the right to condemn you, as nobody is perfect. You have a blessed ministry. Keep up the awesome work for Jesus. God bless!

Hey Kirk, We are looking forward to seeing you in Spring Lake, Michigan for the TRIO concert with Anthony Burger and Shane Dunlap on Saturday, February 26th. Thank you for being transparent with your testimony of stuggle and God's mercy in your life. You have a great ministry that will reach out to so many who struggle with many of life's issues including divorce, depression, marriage struggles, same sex attraction, and many other problems that Chirstians face. Yes....Christians!!! Even we are not immune to tragedy and heartache. My prayer is that the Church will continue to reach out to hurting people and help them to break the bondage of dispair and nurture them into a life of freedom in Christ. When He came to earth 2,000 years ago, he went straight to the hurting, sick, and downtrodden of society. He held company with the lowest of the low, the poorest of the poor, and the most contagious of the sick. This ministry is alive today, and is needed more than ever. Thank you for your sacrifice and continued diligence, your most heartfelt songs, and your love for others. I am proud to call you my friend and my brother in Christ !!!!

Kirk, Thank you for your ministry in Bradenton FL. I heard about it on the radio and decided I had to see what you were actually saying about your recent ordeal. I enjoyed the music, the humor and the interaction you had with the audience. You certainly have a natural way of making people feel like they know you personally. But when you started your testimony about your struggles, I forgot all about the music and the "performer" that I had just heard sing. I heard an honest man thats been through hell for a year. I heard a man that admits his mistakes but still longs to walk in the Grace of God. I too am imperfect, I have my daily temptations, I fail God daily. But because of your testimony, I was very encouraged to keep going to church and keep trying my best to please God. (at times I have wanted to give up) I have noticed that the local radio station here in Bradenton no longer plays your music, and someone told me that you were no longer welcome in some Gospel magazine. I couldn't believe that your piers wouldn't appreciate your honesty. Your struggle is no different than the ones they have. I have heard all kinds of stories about some gospel singers. . . . .we are all trophies of grace. and every morning his mercies are new. I am praying that you will be bigger and better than ever before regardless of those judgemental "christians" I think you are great.

I was just blown away by your story and openness. I'm so crushed by how we, as Christians, seem to "shoot our own wounded" and I hope your honesty and openess can help this situation for those who struggle with same sex attractions. I'll pray for you daily - that God will use this to expand your ministry and His ministry!!

God Loves You Kirk! He is going to use you more than He has ever before. I too have been struggling with this, and God is healing me also. Some of it goes back to how you perceived things as a child, vows you made, not having a loving father and you are searching for that masculine love, or you don't see yourself as masculine and you are attracted to other men, and or sexual abuse as a child has hendered your normal sexual development. In a way it is just immaturity, because as young children boys usually play with boys and girls with girls and in a way we all are homosexual and we grow out of it. I have also learned that sex is how we perceive ourselves in relation to other people. If you were regeted by the other boys, men etc and not affirmed by then, then it can lead to this. Satan puts this out there as a false way of receiving love. See as adults we associate love with sex, because we can express our love to our spouse thru sexual intimacy. God designed sex as something beautiful and like all of the things God designed, Satan has a counterfeit. If people are having these attractions, it means that something is wrong and God wants you to work thru it. God says they are wrong, so if you are having them it just means that there is an issue you need to deal with and in the end this will be a blessing. Yes, God can heal you instanceously, but He usually wants you to get to the root emotional cause and deal with that. Also, a lot of Adults can have Adult ADD which is a chemical imbalance and it can cause you to find other men stimulating and or find certain things stimulating that other people would not. Check out www.brainplace.com for a video and a checklist for free online for more information. If you think that you have always been different, and you were born gay, it could be that ADD is a big part of it. I don't believe God makes people gay. It just means there is something emotionally and possibly chemically wrong. Thanks Kirk for being so openly honest. God will restore you, and when

Kirk, Thank you for being so transparent in the sharing of your testimony. As a promoter of Southern Gospel Music I have followed your career, from The Hoppers to The Cathedrals, and from the Talley Trio to your solo ministry. I'm so thankfu that in your darkest hours, when you needed help, there was a pastor like Phil Hoskins who became your "Good Samaritan". And while other "religious" people passed by, Phil Hoskins stoped and picked you up...ministered to your needs and stood by your side as both a pastor and a friend. I've heard it said that a friend is someone who runs in, when everyone else runs out. Praise the Lord for Pastor Hoskins running in. I was touched by your honesty and openness in the sharing of your testimony. As I read your story I couldn't help but think.......out of all the beautiful songs the Holy Spirit has inspired you to write, my favorite will always be "Past your Past". What a message! What a challenge! That with the help of God, and the support and encouragement of pastor's like Phil Hoskins and true friends who run in, we can get past our past. Marti and I look forward to seeing you in May when you share your testimony in Woodbridge VA. Your greatest days of ministry to hurting people are ahead. Your Friends, Ken & Marti Cox

Kirk, your testimony blew me away. I am a total fan of Southern Gospel music and tend to think that the artists live a blessed life with no really tough problems. I'm learning more and more that it's the trials we walk through that strengthen our character and make us more fit to be witnesses to the great love that the Father bestows on us. I applaud you for your willingness to testify publicly and in great detail to what you have gone through. It's now a part of your ministry. I have a whole new respect for you. I must tell you, I've always enjoyed your singing. "Step into the Water" was a favorite long before I found out that you wrote it. And I just love The Trio - Kirk, Ivan, and Anthony -or is it Burger and Fries??? :-) When I was saved at age 48, I was addicted to both cigarettes and alcohol. Within 3 weeks, God lifted the alcoholism off of me - completely - as if it had never been. The smoking was a whole different matter. I struggled for another five years before God finally answered my prayers and pleas and helped me overcome that addiction. And afterward, there was constant vigilance against Satan's temptation. But I stand to tell you that there is Victory in Jesus. I have been alcohol-free since March 24, 1991, and tobacco-free since December 1, 1996. PRAISE THE LORD!!! I have found that God uses my weakness and struggles and victory to encourage other people struggling with the same or similar issues. We sinners can always relate better to those who have walked the same path. And I know that God will use your experience to help and encourage people that He sends your way. I am hoping that my husband and I will be able to come down to Bradenton to see you at Samoset First Baptist Church. I would dearly love for my husband to hear you whistle - live and in person. We live in Ocala, Florida, but my friend Peggy Battles invited us to see you. We are recovering from respiratory ailments which make it unwise for us to travel late Saturday evening. It's almost 140 miles from here to there. But, God willing, we'll be there to meet you on Sunday morning. Welcome back. We love you, Kirk.

Dear Kirk, I don't travel in religious circles anymore, so I stumbled onto your wed site quite by accident. I noticed from reading the comments, that you get a lot of unsolicited advice from a lot of well-meaning people. Well, here is more from "one who's been there". Take your freedom!! There is nothing quite so exhilarating as the fresh, cool breeze of freedom. Freedom to be your own, unique self. Freedom from the burden of undeserved shame and humilation. Freedom from having to please everybody. Freedom to leave behind those who accuse, scoff and scorn. Freedom to forge new friendships and forsake ignorance, and the freedom to move on and not look back. Freedom to sing and be happy. You are fortunate to be gifted with a voice second to none and a presence to be celebrated. I know this is true because I've heard you sing --in a little church once upon a time. Rejoice in your own special uniqueness. Be assured you are very much loved by those who really matter, and will be loved, no doubt , by the many you have yet to meet on your journey. Paul

By the time we get there, we all will be awestruck at sharing God's Amaging Grace which has been poured out on all our lives. God is doing something Beautiful in your life and ministry, and it is exciting to follow you as you experience God every day of your life. It gets sweeter as the days go by. Keep on being the instrument God wants to use in millions of lives and hearts, as you share all God gives you each day of the rest of your earthly life. Thanks for being you.

I always enjoyed the trio's singing when you came to Glenville WV. God has a way of keeping us humble and useful and sometimes its through the weakness of the flesh, dont give up and dont give in Gods grace is sufficient for all our needs. You are in our prayers, I too struggled with a weakness, so I understand even if mine is different, its still a weakness and sin. But our Lord delivered me just as he will you, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness...We just have to be honest with Him...In Christ....

Kirk, Christian Greetings! I'm one of many who has enjoyed yours and the Talley's music ministry for years. I just wanted to let you know that my wife and I have prayed for you, and are extremely proud of what God has done in your life! I was blessed to attend a conference about a year and a half ago, where a great Pastor shared his struggles. One of the things he said has really stuck in my heart since. He said to never be afraid to minister out of your personal hurts. In ministry, we somehow have this misconception that we are to be stronger than others, so they will follow our lead. How wrong we have been! Humility is still God's lifestyle! I tell my congregation to live in such a way that others will want what you have. People know Superman is just a comic book character. They want to know about our struggles, and how God helped us through them. Please don't ever be afraid to minister out of your personal pains! And.....I tell young ministers all the time, the hardest thing about ministry is to live what you preach! But, thank God, you have realized the God you've been singing for and about for years, and He is helping you get "Passed your Past"! We love you! If you can ever find your way down here in the New Orleans area, we would love to have you minister! Be Blessed! Bishop Terry L. Ray New Day Christian Center Marrero, LA.

A worship service is typically a place where people go to express their love and adoration to God. Often, it is a place where people are enlightened as to how they can enjoy a better life through the blessings of the Lord and the promises that God has made in His Word. On occasion you can be wonderfully entertained by talented musicians and singers and carefully crafted sermons. But seldom, unfortunately, do people regard the house of God as a refuge that they can run to with their hurts, broken hearts and ruined lives. So much emphasis is placed on the positive message that people who have made bad decisions feel like the proverbial dirt swept under the rug. I recently invited Kirk Talley to the church that I pastor in Smyrna, Tennessee. I thought I had invited the talented singer and songwriter that I had known for many years, but, what I encountered was a communicator that far superseded the Kirk Talley that I knew. A talented singer and songwriter still, Kirk sang a few songs as he started narrowing the subject to God's grace. Kirk then transformed into the most transparent person that I have ever seen as he opened up the most intimate part of his life. People were moved, not just emotionally, but in their spirit! The house of God was transformed as well into a sanctuary as people moved toward the altars bringing their hurts and broken lives. Repentance and renewal was the glorious result. Hearts and attitudes were changed and the banner of compassion was raised. Our church will never be the same as a result of this single worship service. I give my highest recommendation to Kirk Talley. I also commit to pray for doors of opportunity to open to this powerful and effective ministry. Sincerely, Rev. Johnny Minick Senior Pastor River Of LIfe Assembly Of God Smyrna, Tennessee

I have a hard time expressing my feelings and struggles to the people closest to me so I know I couldn't get up in front of hundreds of people and put it all out on the table like you did. Keep going and don't get discouraged. I believe God has something great in store for you and that He is already turning this around for good and His glory. In Him, Michelle

Kirk, that is one of the most awesome testimonies I have read ever!! I am currently married to a man that has same sex attractions and it is very hard sometimes. I was going to do like your wife and have him leave when he first told me about 8 years ago but then I thought to myself that he was this way when I married him and the only difference is that now I know. I love him for him. I was raised in church and taught right from wrong and my family who always showed love for my husband now knows about him and have pulled away from him. It hurts me tremendously!! I would love to talk to you more and go into more detail than in this comment room. Thank you for your testimony and my little glimpse or ray of hope that all will be ok.

Kirk, Thank you so much for being open and honest on your web site. I vaguely remember hearing some of your CD's when I was younger and seeing them in the stores. I, too, have struggled with Same Sex Attractions most of my life. I was the director of a local ministry when my secret was "found out." Instead of embracing the Church, I ran away from God for almost ten years. I became a gay activist in an area where there are few gay people (South Dakota). It took a tragedy to make me stop and think about my life in terms of eternity. I have recently begun a journey back into the fold of Jesus' flock. It's very painful and lonely, but I'm getting occassional glimmers of hope. I would like to encourage you in your ministry. You have reached out to me. I am adding you to the list of men that I pray for daily. I would like to know what your journey was like, if you are willing to share any of that, too. May God keep using you for His Glory! Kirk, I grew up listening to you and the Talley's - I grew up in a very abusive background - as you were up on the stage with Roger and Debra (and little Lauren...she was so little)...Now hearing that you were afraid that someone would see your pain...I was sitting only pews away from you in a MN concert, and I was afraid you would see my pain. My abusers were right three besides me. Being at your concert was a blessing and a security - I chose not to live the life my abusers wanted to live - and I was disowned back in 1998. I am now learning, just like you, how to live a Godly life. I had to move away, and start over - leaving everything behind - just like you did in a sense. Yet, my hope is in the love of Jesus - His precious blood...and I am reminded about them as I hear your voice singing "He is Here" and "Seranaded by Angels" - When I loose hope - the only song I can sing to gain hope and sight of what is before me again is by singing "He is Here" - the memories are what I have...and the life before me that I have to learn to live is a challenge I will face for years. But, I hope you can see and understand one clear simple truth - there is ONE JUDGE - and that Judge's name is Jesus Christ - Our Father....God, Abba...Or King....his names are endless. Through your testimony, I can see that you feel His forgiveness - that is what counts. And for the others in this world that cannot see past the pain, shame, guilt, etc (I know, I have been there)....it comes down to the one most important relationship....you and your Master. I am alive today from the music you placed in my heart - you are alive today from those who picked you up and loved you. You can make this journey.... You are a child of God - and, if I may, let me share this with you - I know that my family (entire) and I will never be reunited on earth again - but the day I look forward to when things seem hopeless is the day when I will be standing with Jesus, and He takes me by the hand and introduces us again - where there will be no pain, no shame, n You are not alone in this world. Thank you for your gifts...thank you for sharing your testimony. May God bless you - and, as my new mentor tells me, hold on to the "Precious Blood" - don't ever let go of "the Lord's Hand" - and He will never let go of yours. Blessings from above, Rebekah

hi Kirk, i am from Mississippi. The other day i was with my local church going to a concert and they were discussing the matter that you mention in your testimony, but i refused to believe it. i wanted to hear it from the "horse's mouth" so to speak. So i decided to look up your website. i just wanted to say that i appreciate your honesty, Jesus said that the truth does set us free, and also, He is the Truth, way and the life. amen! I appreciate the fact that you didn't glorify what you were feeling, you just cried for help--and i praise the LORD that someone reached out and helped you! i'll never forget your concert some years back when you came to Kosciusko, MS. I know that the LORD has great plans for you Kirk! keep looking to Jesus! Lord bless! Frances :)

Dear Kirk, you have been on my mind and in my prayers for over a year. Today, God brought you again to my mind and I clicked on your web site. How grateful I am that I did. I am so thankful for your testimony and how you have been dealing with your struggle. I do know that God's grace can bring a person through any situation that they face. I have always believed that God has called you into his ministry, you have written so many wonderful songs, only God can bring words and music together like that.. I will continue to pray for you and am so grateful that you did not give in to Satan, but chose to stand tall and by the grace of an amazing God, admitted your struggle, and allowed His healing streams of forgiveness and mercy to minister to so many of us who have struggles everyday. I have found that even though we put labels on the sins in our lives, God sees it only as a barrier that prevents his love and forgiveness to come into our lives. I will use your testimony as I minister to those who need encouragement and confirmation of what a loving, forgiving God can do.

I hope that you will find that place of peace with yourself, even if it means accepting yourself as a gay man. It is possible to be gay and also live a faithful Christian life. Seek to live a life of authenticity. Peace! Kris

Kirk, my family and I have long thought that you are the best thing to happen to gospel music of ANY kind - - ever!! You have so much more talent than the rest of them that it is impossible for God to allow you to go "unused" (as a friend's son says) (and you're creative, too, as proven by the photos of the mike "stand" for the piano :). Anyone who tells you differently is just suffering the sin of jealousy. You WILL be a positive influence in gospel music. You may not know how much influence you've have until you get to Heaven and are told, "I'm here because of you." Whereas the majority of us will be lucky to have a "one room shack" in Heaven, YOU will have one of the biggest mansions up there. As I tell people: the Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it !! Nothing like being a stubborn Christian, is there? You just keep hanging in there, but PLEASE learn which button lowers which window in that particular vehicle. Next time, the meatballs may be a bit "tough"!! [LOVED the story :); SORRY it was true :( ]. If you ever give up gospel music, consider taking up writing. I'll buy the first book!!

I really admire you for having the courage to give such a bold testimony. Because of your boldness, you will help to lead many people into the kingdom of Heaven. I want to send you a poem that I wrote while going through a very difficult time this year, including job loss and divorce. This poem is on my website, www.thefreedompage.org. May God Bless You in your new ministry.

Praying for you daily, claiming the promises of scripture. Thank God for His grace. Remaining positive to accept all the Fahter's promises: Ephesians 5: 19-20: "Speaking to yourselves in psalms, hymns, and spirtual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Love speaks the truth; our Father's word is truth. In Love and truth, Happy Fenton

Kirk, I can't begin to tell you what your testimony this past weekend meant to me. I am so proud of you for standing up and being honest. I wonder what Southern Gospel Music's ministry would be if more singers would be that transparent. I can identify with what you were saying. I was married for many many years to a wonderful man who wrestled with same sex attraction. I loved him with all my heart, and still do. He was honest with me long before we were married. That part of him didn't stop me from loving him. I loved him dearly and he loved me. I accepted him just the way he was. We had two beautiful children together. Our children accepted him and loved him unconditionally. My husband is a very talented man. He became very involved in the music at our church. For several years he played with the musicians, an accomplished guitarist. He played with them until one Sunday morning when the head of the Deacon Board called him up in front of the entire church congregation and publically announced to the congregation that my husband was gay. The Deacon and the Pastor immediately asked him to leave the church. My family was devestated. My children cried the rest of that day. The next morning, my husband packed a suitcase and left town. I only went back to that church one time, and that was to pick up his guitar and to thank the Pastor and the Deacon for ruining my marriage. Their response was "we can't have someone so vile in our church". I quickly left that church, never to return again. Since then my son has become very bitter toward the church, and is now involved in drugs and running with the wrong crowd. My daughter also wants nothing to do with the church now. I attend occasionally, but I doubt I will ever be involved in church again. I listen to a southern gospel radio station and I heard about your situation last year. When I heard you were going to be within 100 miles of my home, I had to come hear what you had to say. FINALLY, SOMEONE ASKED CHRISTIANS TO BE GRACIOUS AND SHOW THE GRACE OF GOD to people who aren't perfect. You may not see it yet, but I do believe your ministry is to be a bridge that will open people's eyes and cause them to see that God loves everyone, and that everyone that has trusted him, whether they are Black, white, blue eyed, brown eyed, right or left handed, Hetro or Homo, Democrat or Republican ........ and that Christians shouldn't be the judge. I could go on and on, but I will just say THANK YOU so much for being honest and transparent. I am sure you have been chastised greatly for it, and you probably will continue to be. But this lady sure appreciates it. You are a strong man. Carol

I just saw Kirk Talley siniging "I've Been There" on ""Unfolding Majesty" with Dean & Mary Brown. The words of that song and the feeling with which he presented it, were so great, I was brought to tears. I've always enjoyed Kirk's music, but if you haven' t heard him in the past few months, you are really missing a blessing from God. I've been to several of his concerts and some church services lately, and he has ministered to me every time I've been. Kirk's testimony is very powerful. I've witnessed the power of God in those service, and I've seen the Altar's fill--at one church from one side of the building to the other, and some standing because there wasn't enough room to kneel. The words to his songs come alive with new meaning. And I'm so happy that God has allowed me to be in those services and feel the power of his ministry through Kirk. I'm so glad that God has intervened, and that Kirk is still singing, and with new meaning and purpose in his life. For those of you who are skeptical of what God is doing through Kirk, you need to go out and hear him and experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in the services. Then you will know that God still loves us and is able to "work all things for our good". The scripture comes to mind when Joseph told his brothers in Genesis 50:20, "You thought evil against me: But God meant it unto good, to bring to pass as it is this day, to save much people alive. " Thank you Kirk for letting God work his will in your life. Just keep it up.

Kirk, We enjoyed having you at El Bethel. I was so touched by your story as were most people I talked with afterwards. What courage you have to open your life up for all to look at. Doing that alone shows how much the good Lord is blessing you. I don't think you could face your daily struggles if it weren't for the fact the He is walking right along side of you and taking your hand in His. I know that this is your sword in the flesh at least for right now, because the Lord is using you in a most powerful way. I am saddened that so many "Christians" have felt a need to trash you or judge you as they have, for who among us is capable of casting the first stone? You have a beautiful voice and so much talent keep on using it for the glory of God. I truly believe that one day the Lord will restore you in ways you cannot imagine. God Bless You always.
